Our Research

One gap in the HNE literature is that no studies include HNE data over multiple time points within a year. Understanding within-age differences will inform pedagogical strategies caregivers and educators can use to foster the growth and development of early mathematics skills. This longitudinal study asked caregivers of 3-year-olds to complete the same HNE survey each month for six months. Our lab has used this public dataset to examine differences in the HNE over short periods of time.

The TCLE Project is designed to gather information on several areas of toddler classroom language environments using a LENA device. The purpose of this study is to determine how toddlers’ early interactions with adults are important for future success and whether certain times of the day encourage more interactions than others. This study will help researchers better understand the importance of development during toddlerhood in childcare settings.

The EHLE dataset was collected to examine four subdomains of the home learning environment: the Home Literacy Environment (HLE), Home Mathematical Environment (HME), Home Executive Function Environment (HEFE), and the Home Science Environment (HSE). Our lab has used this public dataset to examine differences across these subdomains and developmental trajectories of the HME. You can access this public dataset HERE.
